The Active Lifestyle: Comments From Carson – May 20, 2009
My Vacation…It was a good one, in fact I haven’t taken a vacation that I didn’t liked yet! Homebase was a Casino Hotel in Laughlin, Nevada, the reason is the lure of the aquatic adventures that await a boater. The first day we drove from Laughlin to Needles and Camp Moabi where they have a great launch ramp, got the boat in the water and headed for the sand bar where the mouth of the Colorado River flows into Lake Havasu, the river was so high that all that showed on the sand bar was the vegetation, not much beach.
Cruising past the bar we decided to head for the London Bridge, when we got there a Sheriffs boat was blocking the channel entry, the Deputy told us that we had to go around the Island because they were filming a movie, so we took the long way around, beaching the boat in the channel, taking a swim, having lunch and just chilling.
By the time we started to head back the movie shoot was over so we could leave the channel going under the London Bridge. That was pretty much day one on the water, day two found us going up to Lake Mohave, we got a tip from another boater in the hotel parking lot that Princess Cove was the less congested ramp, just a right turn from the Katherine’s Landing ramp, and he was right, no traffic or wait on the launch ramp. We got the boat on the water and found a nice glass like cove to kneeboard and pull the tube. After a few hours of tubing and knee boarding we found a secluded beach to have lunch and wade around.
As far as the night life and dining were concerned those buffets are dangerous on the waistline, and after a full day on the water the eye lids get heavy early! Oh yea, there was also three rounds of golf in the mix but that was local, before and after the trip thru the desert on a horse with no name.
