hollywood bowl On Tour In Los Angeles

I was thinking about the recent “Rock Star” concerts that passed thru L.A. Starting with Sir [lastfm]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] at the Hollywood Bowl where he started almost an hour late but then played for three solid hours with no intermission.

In the [lastfm]Beatle[/lastfm] days a Beatles concert performance was only about twenty minutes, they had opening acts like the [lastfm]Righteous Brothers[/lastfm] or [lastfm]Ronettes[/lastfm] to fill out the evening. Paul not only sang Beatles hits, but his [lastfm]Wings[/lastfm] hits as well. The reason for the short twenty-minute performance in the Beatle days was because their songs at that time (1964-65) ran on average of two minutes in length.

Then you just had The [lastfm]Eagles[/lastfm] making a historic first time stop at The Hollywood Bowl. I missed that one but long time listener Debra of San Dimas said that the Eagles harmonize like no other group. The last time I saw The Eagles was at the Forum in Inglewood that’s how long it’s been. The late Roy Orbison opened for them and had the audience standing on their seats demanding an encore. I talked with Eagle [lastfm]Glenn Fry[/lastfm] years later and mentioned Roy’s outstanding performance and he said that the Eagles liked to use different groups to open for them around the country at the different venues. [lastfm]Don Henley[/lastfm] who grew up in Texas was partial to fellow Texan [lastfm]Roy Orbison[/lastfm]. The thing that’s unanimous about the Eagles is that they always in concert sound like their records, no vamping with ad-libbed 20 minute guitar solo’s where they lose the audience.

Thanks to Debra for the report.
