beatleshopefulpic1 BEATLES The Mop Top TEN[lastfm]The Beatles[/lastfm] had all kinds of “nicknames.”   They were the “Fab Four,” they were “The Lads From Liverpool,” they were “The MOP TOPS” (denoting the way they wore their hair)…so…in presenting the Lads from Liverpool’s ALL-TIME Top Ten, it seemed only fitting to call it “The MOP TOP TEN” because, well, just because we thought it was so darn clever!

There were a total of 69 different songs that made the Billboard Hot 100 during the reign of the Beatles and even after the band broke up.

Here are “The Lads From Liverpools'” ALL TIME TOP 10, based on Billboard’s HOT 100.  Each of the tunes hit #1 on the charts, so the determining factors were (a) number of weeks at #1, then, in instances where the tune was at the top the same number of weeks….then… (b) number of weeks on the chart would be the next consideration….so….HERE THEY ARE!!

1.    Hey Jude  (9 weeks #1) — Paul wrote this for John’s son Julian

2.    I Want To Hold Your Hand  (7 weeks #1) — the tune that started BEATLEMANIA!!

3.    Get Back  (5 weeks #1) — Billy Preston on keyboards — he was known as “The 5th Beatle”

4.    Can’t Buy Me Love  (5 weeks #1) — advance order of 2 million copies – a record at the time

5.    Yesterday  (4 weeks #1) — Paul woke up with the tune in his head one morning!

6.    Hello, Goodbye  (3 weeks #1)

7.    We Can Work It Out  (3 weeks #1)

8.    I Feel Fine  (3 weeks #1) — John’s idea to use “feedback” on the music intro

9.    Help!  (3 weeks #1) — title track from their second major movie

10.  She Loves You (2 weeks #1)
