Imagine, if you will…(oh oh, we inadvertently slipped into a “Rod Serling mode”….let’s try it again)…
Can you imagine….(you’ll see why we’re using this word in just a few sentences)…anyway, can you imagine a measly single sheet of paper worth maybe a half million dollars? Imagine it being worth perhaps another quarter of a million dollars MORE than that!!!
Well, any Beatlemaniac may think that the sheet of paper is worth it all; maybe more!
This isn’t just an ordinary piece of paper (duh!) It’s the single piece of paper that [lastfm]John Lennon[/lastfm] (oh, so that’s why “Imagine” was used so often in setting this up!! Ding!!!) hand wrote the lyrics to “A Day In The Life” on!!!!
Sotheby’s will put it on the auction block in New York on June 18th (which just so happens to be K-EARTH Program Director Jhani Kaye’s BIRTHDAY!!!) Oh!! Wait! We hear it’s also [lastfm]PAUL McCARTNEY’S[/lastfm] birthday! Does Sotheby’s have a purpose in using that date to put another Beatles’ item up for bid??? Coincidence?? We think not!
OK, so about this paper. On one side, there is a rough draft of the lyrics of that great “Sgt. Pepper” tune, and, on the other side, there’s a neater version with fewer corrections.
It also contains John noting where Paul would insert his more upbeat verse.
Missing from the lyrics, however, is Macca’s middle passage about when he fell out of bed, dragged a comb across his head and dashed to the bus.
The record, by the way, for the most $$$$$ paid for Beatle lyrics at auction is a MILLION DOLLARS.
It was in 2005, and the words were for the song “All You Need Is Love.”
Well, not really. To get in THIS game, you also need MONEY. LOTS of it!
