Get your “sleep”-related puns ready, newspaper headline writers of America…Inception cleaned up at the box office this weekend, exceeding expectations en route to a $60 million opening! Find out about the weekend at the movies after the jump!
Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a dream thief, opened to the tune of $76 million worldwide, with $60.4 million of that being here in the United States. It easily outpaced Despicable Me, starring the vocal talents of Steve Carrell, which came in at $32.7 million.
The film is DiCaprio’s best opening weekend, though director Christopher Nolan, of course, did slightly better with The Dark Night. The Batman sequel garnered $158.4 million in its opening weekend.
Inception has already exploded online, and with good reason: The movie’s twists and turns (we can’t say more without spoiling it) are the type that beg exploration and conversation. Discussions about the final scene are popping up everywhere online.
This is where we would normally put a link to the trailer, so you can revel in its Nolany awesomeness. But it’s the Internet, and it’s hard to find the trailer anywhere without accompanying spoilers. So instead, here’s a cat rescuing a kitten:
