piano Abbey Road Piano Up For Auction

A “bit battered” and covered in “cigarette burns and stains,” stands the upright piano used by the [lastfm]Beatles[/lastfm] at Abbey Road studios until it’s shipped off next month to the highest bidder.

The famous piano that was used between 1964 and 1980 to record many Beatles classics like “Paperback Writer” is expected to sell for a pretty penny when its auctioned off on August 15 in London!

Want to know more about the piano’s history… or thinking about making a bid? More details after the jump!

The famous piano is expected to sell for about £150,000 ($229,000) when it’s auctioned off at the Vintage Goodwood Festival, at Goodwood Estate in West Sussex. A reasonable price for classic instrument of music history!

Stephen Maycock, Beatles memorabilia expert at Bonhams, said, “Studio Three was the smallest. The Beatles regularly used it, and we know they recorded certain songs there using the piano.”

“It was also used by other bands, including [lastfm]Pink Floyd[/lastfm], and without its association with the studios, it would be worth a very modest sum. It has been used and abused — but that gives it character.
