It seems like a lifetime since music legends [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Leon Russell [/lastfm] first collaborated on a cross country tour in the ’70s, when a young Elton opened for the country outlaw for a series of dates. The duo always expressed fond admiration for each other’s work and have once again teamed up for a new album fittingly titled The Union.

Sharing a long and rich history, the veternĀ singer/songwriter pianists have collaborated onĀ loaded 15-track album with country rich ballads, powerful gospel tunes and high profile guests including [lastfm]Neil Young [/lastfm] and [lastfm]Brian Wilson[/lastfm] lending a hand on backing vocals. The Union unites the musicians with accomplished producer [lastfm]T-Bone Burnett[/lastfm] and John’s longtime writing collaborator, Bernie Taupin.

The first single off the album was released earlier this week and features vocals from both musicians as well as John on the piano. “If It Wasn’t For Bad,” then I don’t know if there would ever be super-duos like this creating new and organic sounds for our listening pleasure. The Union hits stores on October 19th,
