Today's Tickets @ 2 Song: "Please Come Home For Christmas" by Eagles

One of the songs that we get a lot of calls here at K-EARTH is [lastfm]Louis Armstrong[/lastfm]’s “What a Wonderful World.” It’s an uplifting, feel-good tune about appreciating the beauty of our surroundings. It was written by [lastfm]Bob Thiele[/lastfm] and the late George David Weiss (Weiss also helped create the hit version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”).

It was released in 1968 and became a number one hit in the UK, but only reached number 32 here in the U.S. in 1988 after being re-released as a single when it was featured in the Robin Williams movie Good Morning, Vietnam.

[lastfm]Louis Armstrong[/lastfm] is known for his raspy voice and jazz-styled trumpet playing and recorded the song for scale, only $250 to make sure the orchestra got paid. The song has evolved into a beloved hit over the years and has been featured in numerous movies and covered by many artists, but it was Louis’ original recording that ultimately got inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

Have a great weekend and enjoy our “Great Guitar Lick” weekend!
