It was today in 1964 when The Bealtes were paid $150,000 for a show they performed in Kansas City, the most any act had ever been paid for a live show. Tickets to the show only cost $4.50. Times certainly have changed since then. The following year, The Smothers Brothers Show, a situational comedy, premiered on CBS. It only lasted one year.
1967 – Jim Morrison broke an agreement with the producers of The Ed Sullivan Show when he performed the song “Light My Fire” and included the lyrics ‘Girl, we couldn’t get much higher’ after telling the show he wouldn’t sing them. By doing that, The Doors were permanently banner from ever appearing on the show again.
1969 – It was being reported by different news outlets that Paul McCartney was killed in a car accident on November 9th, 1966 and a “double” was standing in for him at public appearances. Turns out he and his girlfriend were on vacation in Kenya.
1980 – “Divine Madness,” Bette Midler’s concert fil, premiered in Los Angeles.
1997 – Fleetwood Mac began their reunion tour to promote their new CD The Dance.
