On September 22, 1958, [lastfm]Elvis Presley[/lastfm] boarded the USS General Randall and set sail for Germany with the rest of the 3rd Armored Division. [lastfm]The Springfields[/lastfm], made up of [lastfm]Dusty Springfield[/lastfm], her brother Tom and their friend Tim Field, had their song “Silver Threads and Golden Needles” reach the top 20 in the music charts, making them the first British vocal group to do so in the US.

1969 – [lastfm]Stevie Wonder[/lastfm], [lastfm]Crosby Stills Nash & Young[/lastfm], [lastfm]Tom Jones[/lastfm], [lastfm]Cass Elliot[/lastfm], [lastfm]James Brown[/lastfm], [lastfm]Janis Joplin[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Sly and the Family Stone[/lastfm] all appeared on a new TV show entitled “The Music Scene” which aired on ABC.

1972 -[lastfm]David Bowie[/lastfm] kicked of the North American leg of his Ziggy Stardust world tour.

1974 – ABC debuted “The [lastfm]Sonny Bono[/lastfm] Comedy Revue.”

1979 – Two anti-nuclear benefit shows took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City featuring [lastfm]Jackson Browne[/lastfm], [lastfm]Chaka Khan[/lastfm], [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm], [lastfm]Bonnie Raitt[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Tom Petty[/lastfm].
