The prime days of sitting around the family television set.  Color television was brand new and it wasn’t until the middle of that year when sets were required to receive UHF channels. The year 1964 was also the first full season NBC broadcasted 50% of their line-up in color.  The other two networks, CBS and ABC were still airing most of their shows in black & white.

The 1964 television season was also a year for many long running show debuts including Gilligan’s Island and The Munsters on CBS, Jeopardy! on NBC, Bewitched and The Addams Family on ABC.  It was also when the classic Rudolf The Red-Nosed Reindeer, still aired today, made its holiday debut on NBC.

The top 10 shows of the 1964-65 television season, which ran from October 1964 – April 1965, were:

1.  Bonanza – NBC

2.  Bewitched – ABC

3.  Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. – CBS

4.  The Andy Griffith Show – CBS

5.  The Fugitive – ABC

6.  The Red Skelton Hour – CBS

7.  Dick Van Dyke Show – CBS

8.  The Lucy Show – CBS

9.  Peyton Place II – ABC

10.  Combat – ABC

    OMG, those were the good ol days when tv wasnt corrupted with all those sex scenes……children were able to watch TV without having to close their eyes or be sent to another room……
