Are you serious! Neil Diamond is a legend with a whole lotta talent! Rock N’ Roll is more inclusive than some people wanna admit.

  2. JERI says:

    I VOTE NO.

  3. Lorelei McBroom says:

Gary Rock ‘N Roll is a state of mind! Don’t get hung up on styles. Little Richard to Jimmy Hendrix is a big gap, and Neil Diamond has a pop/folk/blues mix that qualifies in my book!

  4. gary law says:

he is the man. i go way back with neil. his music will allways be king. he has all the classics. he really deserves to be in the hall. rather it be cracklin rosie or song sung blue. whatever. open the door and give hom the keys to the darn place. he is truly the best.

  5. Sue Trimborn says:

Gary I cannot BELIEVE you are comparing Neil to Liberace????? Lisa is totally right, I have seen Neil in concert many times and he totally ROCKS. Ps – Miss calling in to talk to you…what’s up with that??

  6. Robert says:

Neil Diamond in the R&R HOF ? Absolutely ! How often does K-Earth 101 play “Cherry Cherry” ? A LOT ! Maybe not enough — it’s a great song. And look at other songs he’s written that have been hits for other artists — “I’m a Believer” by the Monkees, “Kentucky Woman” by Deep Purple, and “The Boat That I Row” by Lulu, which was big in England in ’67. No, maybe we don’t “bring him flowers” any more, but he deserves to be in the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. — Bo’B

  7. Al says:

Neil definitely belongs in the R&R hall of fame.. Why? -If Madonna, The staple singers, Bee gees and Nat King cole are in the hall..thats why..Attention R&R HOF, no KISS in the R&R HOF, You got to be kidding me!

  8. John says:

Yes!! He’s given us lots of great songs that rock!!

  9. Candi Hutchinson says:

I am usually with Gary, but not here. I saw Neil on the Lloyd Thaxton Show and THAT was rock in those days!! Go Diamond!

  10. Laurie Ackerman says:

Hot August Night in 1972 was the greatest Rock and Roll night ever at The Greek! I saw all of his performance. He told everyone that if you ever saw him in public, please come up to him and say hi Neal!
Many years later, I did just that., What a gracious gentleman.
I also remember when he did another concert series at The Greek on Sept. 11, and it was raining . Neal came out doing a soft shoe and singing
“I’m Singing in The Rain,” Vote for Neal.He deserves a place in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Sweet Caroline is my all time favorite hit.I’m A Believer in Neal Diamond! Heard his music for the first time on KHJ thanks to Robert W.Morgan,The Real Don Steele and Sam Riddle! Neal was no diamond in the rough! He was a rock and roll all the way!

  11. Gary K. says:

My only question is, “Why did it take so long”? He should have been in the Hall of Fame a long time ago!!

  12. Richard Stewart says:

WTF, there is no way in hell that Neil Diamond should be considered rock n roll……. beastie boys is more rock/rap, but they belong in the hall of fame more then Neil does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Richard Stewart

  13. Karen Jones says:

Be still my heart! The man is too fantastic! He, on stage, is over the top, sexy, hot, wild, oh again, be still my heart! I “swoon” when I hear him sing – even “You don’t bring me flowers.” What about his song America? Now that rocks and needs to be played a lot in this times!

  14. Richard Stewart says:

You people are crazy, he might be a good artest, but he ISN”T god……
    Richard Stewart

  15. John Haynes says:

Maybe in the Bubble Gum Hall of Fame, right next to Juicy and the Fruits…

    1. kiwix2 says:

Beware the wrath of the Neil Diamond fans…like me!
Rabid dogs have nothing on those who admire, respect and love this mans music.
      Hall of Fame…HELL YEAH !!!

  16. Georgia says:

I love Neil Diamond and he deserves to be included in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. There are many levels of Rock N Roll the over the top groups like KISS, some early people like Elvis. Neil Diamond continues to draw huge audiences at his concerts and is worthy of all honors that come his way,

  17. susie solano says:

Gary, Neil has some nice songs and I’m sure is a nice guy but, you can not put him in the same catagory as the Rolling Stones, Cream, Beatles etc. He’s not rock n’ roll.

He belongs more with Ballet singers.

  18. Ron says:

One of the absolute BEST shows I EVER saw in the early 70’s was a Neil Diamond concert!

  19. John of Long Beach says:

Originally, R&R included Neil and other singer/writers who sang so that you can understand the words! Now you have Metal and Hard Rock as other catagories. One vote from 10-10-10 Jan of Long Beach !

  20. Mary says:

Neil Diamond IS “rock ‘n roll enough” to be in the R&R Hall of Fame! Come on Gary . . . you are just messin’ with us this morning!

  21. Emily says:

My grandmother has been listening to him for ever! She loves him and so do I!!!!! And I am 13

  22. Laurie Ackerman says:

I am voting for Neal Diamond on behalf of my 93 year old dad,Warren Ackerman. He attended at least four Neal Dinamond concerts at The Greek, and Forum in the 1970’s and 1980’s Dad was dressed in black leather and thought Neal Diamond was totally cool! It was a real rock and roll date night with my mom!
You rock Neal in the hearts and mind of my family! Vote for Neal Diamond for The Rock and Roll Fame!

    1. Laurie Ackerman says:

Sex, drugs ,Rock and Roll after a Hot August Night concert in 1972 is a personal memory !

  23. Lee Hand says:

Rock n Roll is an era and Neil Diamond was/is very much a part of this era. You mentioned the Monkees – where would they be without Neil Diamond?? How many of their songs did he write?? Anyway –

  24. Deb says:

My husband and I went to his concert. We were on our feet most of the concert. He’s all ROCK IN ROLL.

  25. Sue Trimborn says:

maybe if you ever PLAYED Neil Diamond, you’d remember how great he is????? give it a rest Gary….XOXOXOX

  26. Sheila says:

Mr.Diamond is that-a Diamond! Although he could be given a hall of his own. He was an early icon through the great days of rock, pop, and r&b. He belongs in all three and maybe more. Only two more days to enjoy his underplayed “September Morn”. I’ve listened to it as often as possible this month. In fact, I’m going to listen right now…

  27. Nola says:

Actually both KISS and Neil Diamond qualify to be in the Rock N’Roll Hall of Fame … but my vote goes to ND since he has been around much longer than KISS. Over the years he’s played and written a variety of music. Not only for his talent and accomplishments, I have much respect for ND and his band. Also I know he has never tolerated drug use – he advocates a healthy lifestyle and that puts him one notch above most other typical Rock N’ Roll bands. I have seen Neil in concert several times over the years and in several states. He rocks the house, especially when he ends the show for the night and comes back for a few encores to please his packed-house audiences who bring him back on stage with their applause. I wish Neil luck … he really does deserve this recognition.

  28. Annette Hughes says:

Uh Gary you are a year younger than I am and you should know this in the 60’s his music WAS Rock and Roll at that time.
I remember working in a dental office as a teenager and listening to Sweet Caroline and rocking to it.
What have you been smoking Gary?
Yes he belongs in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

    1. Gary Bryan says:

      I don’t know… what AM I smoking?

  29. John says:

Neil Diamond should be in the Rock N’ Roll Hall of fame, I was one of the original Tree People at the first Greek Theater Concerts in the mid 70’s. I also believe it is time that Kiss, Dio, and Iron Maiden are way over due. If Abba is in there they all should be.

  30. Harvey Apparis says:

Neil Diamond IS Rock and Roll !! He belongs in the Hall of Fame along with the other greats. I would not rate him as the greatest RR singer of all times but he’s in my top 10

  31. Gail D. says:

Neal Diamond absolutely belongs in the Hall! He’s written more songs for other artists who had hits, not to mention all his fabulous hits. He’s a winner!

  32. Kathy says:

If I am not mistaken Bill Haley and the Comets and Sha Na Na
were in the Rock n Roll era. If they are Rock n Roll certainly Neil Diamond is Rock n Roll.

  33. Meredith says:

Gary are you kiddiing?! Neil is so Rock N Roll.. LL Cool J is so far from Rock and Roll and the Beastie Boys are nothing but noise.. I so AGREE with Lisa….

What is so sad about this is that JAN & DEAN are not even considered!!!!!!

  35. Laura says:

Neil definitely belongs in the R&R Hall of Fame. Question is…what the heck took them so long to nominate him?!?!? He should’ve been in there many years ago! I’ve seen Neil in concert many times and he always totally ROCKS on stage!

  36. Toni says:

No, not rock n roll. The Rolling Stones, definitely…….

  37. Gail says:

Yep! In the same way the Everly Brothers are RnR … and if you’re going to question Neil Diamond, you should question Donovan …

  38. Jenny says:

Neil Diamond’s music may not conform to what rock n roll is today, but when he was most popular, he was totally rock n roll! I was born in ’82, so I missed his biggest heyday, but I’ve seen him in concert 4 times, and he truly is the best (and can still ROCK)!!! He absolutely deserves to be included!

  39. Barbie says:

Of course he should be inducted in the Hall of Fame! His music is timeless. Who else writes all their own material? I’ve listened to his music since I was 11 yrear old and still put in his CD in crowded LA traffic

  40. Mikey says:

I don’t really consider Neil Rock and Roll. He’s a great artist, but I feel he’s more soft rock than anything else, and to me, those two fall into two seperate catagories. I love his music, but c’mon, if they didn’t put KISS – the true Gods of R&R – into the Hall of Fame – which they totally deserve – then Neil doesn’t get my vote. Sorry.

  41. Eljay says:

I voted yes with an asterisk. I personally don’t think Neil Diamond is Rock n Roll. But if you look at others that have already been inducted he fits in just as well as he does. He has had an impact on music, so if that is a criteria, let him in. Apparently, Rock n Roll covers a wide spectrum. What other Hall of Fame is there for artist, not songwriters, but artists? Let him in.

  42. Steve Pritikin says:

Neil Diamond is an Icon in music. To be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be an Honor for him.
Has anyone ever been to the Hall of Fame in Cleveland?
Look it up and check the inducties for 2010. You are a goober if you think anything less of Neil Diamond. Gary, I request a Neil Diamond comback Weekend on Kearth 101. All day and all night Neil songs. Does anybody think Elvis, the Beatles, Stones, Willie Nelson do not belong in the hall either. Some of those inducties made it famous on some songs Neil Diamond wrote. Thats it, vote is closed. Diamond for 2011 Hall of Fame.

  43. Steve G says:

Arguments can be made to support both sides of this discussion: Neil Diamond is a top notch legendary performer. He is definitely hall of fame material. He has several hit songs, sold millions of albums spanning a 5 decade period and his music is timeless. However, I would not classify him a rock & roll. When I think of the rock and roll era, acts such as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zepelin, theWho, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, and Jimi Hendrix, are what stand out. Neil Diamond is more of a pop performer. What criteria are the voters using to determine who enters the rock and roll HOF? For example, Abba was selected. Abba would also be considered pop. Since Abba is in, Neil has a greater body of work; therefore, he should be in as well? Some consider him soft rock. Would that also make him eligible? The writers and voters will have the final say in this matter. In the end, I would vote no because I believe the rock and roll HOF should be limited to Rock and Roll acts. If this were the Modern Music Hall of Fame, there would be NO discussion. He’s in all the way!!

  44. MIke says:

Neil is a great talent and song writer but his music is not really rock N roll. Its more like pop or ballads. I’m 52 and a Neil vocal impersonator and never thought of him as rock N roll. But then again Abba is in there soooo ya go ahead!

  45. Steve says:

A name is a name. What if it was call music and singers Hall of Fame? Who would NOT qualify for the inductee?
In Cleveland when the Hall of Fame opened, a name was given to it to honor special achievement artists in the music field.
Rock and Roll officially started in the 1950’s. Elvis’s music had no definition at the time. Was Elvis Rock-a-billy, Gospel, Soul, Country, Pop, Easy Listening and the list goes on. John Lennon just got a time capsule in his name put in the HAF for his own work. Soft Rock? How about all the soul artists in the Hall, then it should have been called the Soul Hall of Fame.
The Monkees are going to try to get voted in. Look at the title people. Neil Diamond was placed on a list of NOMINEES to be inducted into the (building in Cleveland) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So lets call it what it is, what was there before, what is there now, and who will be there some day is called a NOMINEE, not a rocker. A rocker is what you sit on.
This man took over 5 decades of his life to give us top songs and shows. The Beatles never made it that long no did Elvis.
Show Mr. Diamond some respect and vote him into a place where those of us who grew up with his and all the music in the past 1/2 century enjoyed. Nominate him for Steve’s backyard.
LISA, I love the message Neil left on your answer machine. Lets vote on that next !

  46. Lorraine says:

I would love to vote “Yes” but there are no yes or no boxes!

    1. Gary Bryan says:

Check the top of the post… you’ll see the “yes” and “no” buttons!

      1. Eleanor says:

There are no “yes” or “no” boxes that aren’t qualified “yes” or “no” boxes; how about just plain “yes” or “no” boxes.

  47. Lyd says:

If Paul Simon made the Hall of Fame, then Neil Diamond deserves to be there!

  48. Fred says:

Based on his album “Hot August Night” , we are able to say that he at least was Rock-n-Roll . But as time passed , he sometimes changed styles or genres.
He is NOT “Totally” Rock-n-Roll, but he has done enough to qualify for the Hall of Fame.

  49. Nina Bruno says:

YES! YES! YES! A 1,000,000,000,000,000 TIMES YES!
    He’s a one of a kind.

  50. Pete G says:

I can’t believe people are even questioning this, he is truly one of the greatest legends of Rock!!! The number of hits, the number of covers by other bands, the accolades, the sellout crowds and he’s broken the attendance records of virtually every stadium or arena… Neil IS the epitome of Rock and should’ve been inducted YEARS AGO! Not only a gem, but a class act and best concerts I’ve been to since I first saw him at the Greek Theater in L.A back in’72!!! We never miss him when he comes to L.A!

  51. David Michaels says:

This shouldn’t even be a question. As many have noted, Madonna’s in … ABBA’s in. And yes, Neil Diamond was rock. Led Zeppelin was hard rock. And few can compare to the lyrics he wrote – “Touch a man who can’t walk upright and that lame man he gonna fly” from Holly Holy; “I am … I said, to noone there.” Just so much meaning behind his lyrics. He should be a no-brainer for induction. But then, the hall has overlooked Kiss, Heart and Jan & Dean for years. GOOD LUCK, NEIL!!!
