It was on this date in 1955 when [lastfm]James Dean[/lastfm] was killed in an car accident.   Ten years later, [lastfm]Donovan[/lastfm] made his US television debut on Shindig! along with [lastfm]The Hollies[/lastfm], [lastfm]The Turtles[/lastfm] and the [lastfm]Dave Clark Five[/lastfm].

1967The David Frost Show featured both [lastfm]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] and [lastfm]John Lennon[/lastfm].

1978 – [lastfm]John Travolta[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Olivia Newton-John[/lastfm] had their second number one hit in the United Kingdom with “Summer Nights” from the movie Grease.  The song was number one for seven weeks and became the second best selling single of 1978, only to be beaten by “Saturday Night Fever.”

1987 – [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm], [lastfm]Bonnie Raitt[/lastfm], [lastfm]Tom Waits[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Elvis Costello[/lastfm] joined [lastfm]Roy Orbison[/lastfm] onstage at Los Angeles’ Coconut Grove to record a TV special.

1988 – [lastfm]John Lennon[/lastfm] received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
