Today's Tickets @ 2 Song: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey

Today’s ‘Tickets @ Two’ features the catchy tune “Mrs. Robinson” by [lastfm]Simon & Garfunkel[/lastfm]. The song is most well-known by the movie it was written for, The Graduate, starring Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson who chases after Dustin Hoffman‘s character Benjamin Braddock.

One of the famous lines from the song about the famous baseball player Joe DiMaggio was meant to be a tribute to the hero, but Joe D. wasn’t too pleased with the reference at first.

Regarding the famous line, “Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio,” was a star for the New York Yankees who was briefly married to Marilyn Monroe. He retired from baseball in 1951. Simon used him to represent heroes of the past. DiMaggio was a little miffed when he heard the line in the song, but realized that he had become a new icon with baby boomers.

The song would have had a good chance to win an Oscar for Best Song From A Movie, but it was never nominated because [lastfm]Simon & Garfunkel[/lastfm] never filled out the forms to get it considered. Instead the song “Talk To The Animals” from Doctor Doolittle took the prize. Simon explained, “It was the ’60s, we just weren’t paying attention.”

Hope your paying attention between two and three when we play it, if your caller #12 you’ll win a family four pack of tickets to see The Rockettes Christmas spectacular: 1-800-232-KRTH (5784)
