Did You Know: The Four Tops' "Reach Out I'll Be There"

Todays hit to listen for between two and three is “Reach Out I’ll Be There” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Four Tops[/lastfm]!

They recorded the song in just two takes and had practically forgotten about the song until it was released, assuming it was “Throwaway” album track.

Motown boss Barry Gordy had other ideas and released it as a single. Gordy had a knack for identifying hit songs, and got this one right. It was #1 in both the US & UK.

The Motown songwriting team of Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland wrote the song. They told lead singer Levi Stubbs to sing like Bob Dylan on “Like A Rolling Stone,” which explains the urgency in his lyrics.

Be caller #6 to wind “Uptown, Downtown” tickets starring Leslie Uggams at the Pasadena Playhouse. 1-800-232-KRTH(5784)
