The massive 8-part mini series depicting the early days of the Kennedy administration will never see the light of day on the network that green-lit the project. Funded by A&E Television Networks, the mini series starring Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy and Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy, won’t be aired on the History Channel due to inaccuracy.

The History Channel came to its decision on Friday to not air the historical drama, not because of advertiser complaints, but because the information wasn’t completely accurate.

“Upon completion of the production of ‘The Kennedys,’ History has decided not to air the 8-part miniseries,” a network rep told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “After viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded that although the film is produced and acted with the highest quality auspices, the dramatic license the series takes is not suitable for the History brand.” The rep added, on behalf of the network, “We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series.”

Though A&E is turning down the scripted historical drama, other networks may come together to make sure all the hard work put into the project gets recognized.

“AMC, Starz and Showtime are all looking to pick it up,” a source at a rival network said. “The production values are good, and the acting is great. Showtime had a huge hit with ‘The Tudors,’ which didn’t exactly care about how historically accurate it was. … If they think ‘The Kennedys’ will get them viewers … at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”

The mini series is still planned to air on March 6 in Canada and producers Asylum and Muse stated: “Although we regret this does not fit into the History Channel’s plans, we are confident that television viewers in the United States will join viewers from around the world in having an opportunity to watch this series in the near future.”

I’ve never heard of it until I read about it in the paper this morning. The Kennedy’s must have had some say as to how the family was being portrayed, didn’t they? I’m sure it will be aired somewhere after all the effort put into the project. So long as it isn’t disrespecting the “FAMILY” name and the people portrayed (slandering) then i guess it should air, but like I said, this is the first I’ve heard of the project.
