We’ve been waiting with baited breath since 2009 for the rumored album of covers by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Crosby, Stills and Nash[/lastfm] – and produced by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rick Rubin[/lastfm] – to hit the stores. But now, it seems, the project is off, as CS and N have walked away from both Rubin and their label.

“We have amicably parted ways with both [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rick Rubin[/lastfm] and Columbia,” the band said in an official statement.

Sources have said that part of the reason for the defection might be Rubin’s packed schedule; the superproducer has been working with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kid Rock[/lastfm], amongst others, and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Crosby, Stills and Nash[/lastfm] might be restless waiting.

Covers that might be lost, if the project doesn’t see the light of day, include [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]James Taylor[/lastfm]’s “You Can Close Your Eyes,” the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Grateful Dead[/lastfm]’s “Uncle John’s Band” and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bob Dylan[/lastfm]’s “Girl From The North Country,” covered memorably by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Johnny Cash[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Joni Mitchell[/lastfm]:

Would an album of covers from [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Crosby, Stills and Nash[/lastfm] interested you? Or would you rather hold out for a batch of new songs?
