Depending on which story you believe, comedian Ricky Gervais’ big mouth either cost him his job as host of the Golden Globes, or guaranteed him another year. According to People.com, while Gervais might have gone a little too far, someone from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said they loved the show saying,  “It was fun an obviously has a lot of people talking.”

But do you think Gervais’ jokes were insulting towards Hollywood elite or was he just doing his job entertaining as host?

All the commotion over Gervais’ harsh jabs at celebrities during the award show doesn’t bother the comedian one bit. To Gervais, people getting offended by his jokes is part of his job.

“This year, I went about right. If anyone was offended, then I don’t care,” Gervais told TVGuide.com. He also commented to Deadline.com, “For three hours every year, Hollywood is scared to death of me. It’s great.”

Gervais didn’t hold back any punches during the ceremony, taking shots at Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson and members of the HFPA who put on the award show. Do you think his jokes were out of line or was he just doing his job?

I love Ricky Gervais and I think he handled the MC job wonderfully at the Golden Globes. If he is not brought back it is their loss not his.

I really enjoyed Ricky Gervais this year. He did have some borderline jokes. However like Simon Cowell always said on American Idol” I say what people are afraid to say”. I think on some of the jokes that is exactly what Ricky Gervais did. My favorite which wasn’t mentioned in this report was his joke about Hugh Hefner. My kids even liked that one over and over again.

Ricky Gervais was great! Ok – so he threw out a few jabs at the celebrities – come on – they’ve got to be used to that by now! If they aren’t going to keep their lives “between the lines” then they should expect these kind of remarks now and then. A few decades ago it was the great Don Rickles who could throw the insults and everyone was his target.
Unfortunately, we’ve all become so pc that we are supposed to be “shocked” by what Ricky said. Give me a break, Ricky simply said what we were all thinking!
I hope Ricky is back next year! : )

Sorry I missed the Awards so I didn’t get to hear his monologue, but I would think that “people need to LIGHTEN UP”, don’t you think? I’ve heard that Gervais is a bit raunchy, but do you really think that his jokes were there to INTENTIONALLY harm the celebrities and their reputations.

If that’s how Gervais is, then that’s how he is; you can take him or leave him I guess. Maybe people are just to oversensative that kind of humor or not.

I loved what Lisa and Gary said about “roasts”. If you’re at a party to “roast” someone for fun, then everyone should have a good time and enjoy it right? If your at an event to be “honored” then the last thing you’d expect is to be ridiculed. However, I think Gervais was just being himself and people should just learn to take it with a grain of salt.

If people don’t like what he’s saying about them, then you don’t have to hang around with the guy (plain and simple); find friends who will respect you for who you are and who you KNOW that you can have a good time with without being surprised with “out of the blue” humor.

If I were the individuals who were being ridiculed or roasted (depending how you look at it), I would just “TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT”; that’s all.

Listen, I’m taking my past now with “a grain of salt” and I have had friends say things about me and my dreams (Rainbow Ray and Eric’s Mirror) which can be described as raunchy, but I take it with a grain of salt (as if I have any choice, right?).

These are dreams I have that I want to accomplish in my life and raunchy humor is not going to stop me (from people I know or who I don’t know; it’s that simple).

Overall though, I like roasts though; remember Dean Martin’sa Celebrity Roast that he had in the early 70’s ( I have some on DVD roasting Lucillle Ball, Bob Hope and a few others; true classics. NOW THAT”S HUMOR at its best; all in fun and nobody got hurt by it.You should have a look at them; you’d get a laugh out of them; I know I do now that I can laugh again).

So to everyone who was offended at the Golden Globe Awards and to Gervais himself all I have to say is: HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
Laugh and the world laugh’s with you, cry and you cry alone.
