Taking a look back on this day in history, January 20, 1961 marks the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration as the 35th President of the United States.

His inauguration speech was one of the most important addresses made in history, as JFK famously declared the line, “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Listen to part the original speech made by JFK on the anniversary of his historic day.

To mark the 50th anniversary of JFK’s speech, listen to the original audio of the most memorable lines from his famous speech.

  1. RainbowRay says:

I am a big history buff and enjoy hearing speeches like that. I have Kennedy’s speech on CD as well as Nixon’s resignation (remember watching that on tv when it happened, August 8 1974) as well as some of Reagan’s, Churchill, Roosevelt, etc. A great find and I will always treasure it. I also have a matching book with the speeches in it (remember the moon landing and Kennedy’s assassination; not speeches, but nostalgia nonetheless which I also enjoy).

That speech by Kennedy is a personal favorite as well as his “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech (which can also be translated humerously as “I am a jelly donut”).

With my dreams (Eric’s Mirror and Rainbow Ray), I can relate to Martin Luther King’s speeck “I Have a Dream” the most and have listened to it and played it several times during my journey and still enjoy.

Kudos to KEARTH 101 for playing that speech. Also of note, I played Nixon’s Debate with Kennedy (have on DVD) on the actual anniverary of the debate in 1960; that was special.

As Rainbow Ray would say, “SHARING IS CARING AND CARING IS SHARING!! LIVING IS GIVING AND GIVING IS LIVING!!” (provided there is no “butt dialing!!” ha!)
