Excitement took over the K-EARTH 101 Morning Show as Gary & Lisa welcomed commended actor Jack McGee, who recently starred in the Oscar-nominated film The Fighter alongside Mark Wahlberg. They’re joining the rest of amazing ensemble of Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams this Sunday at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards as top contenders for a golden statue for the dramatic real-life tale of boxer Mickey Ward.

Jack McGee stopped by the morning show to talk a little about the film, and as a special surprise, Mark Wahlberg himself called in while on set shooting another movie to check in with his favorite morning show! No doubt one of the biggest films of the year, The Fighter has earned a total of seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo. One of the stars of the most talked about movie of the year, Jack McGee sat in with Gary and Lisa this morning to talk about the film and working with this all-star cast.

As a member of the Academy, Jack is planning on giving his support to his cast-mates in the supporting roles and of course to the film itself and the director David O. Russell. He gives us the back story on how he wrangled his role as George Ward from Brad Pitt who was also up for the part, and how Christian Bale untraditionally got cast in his electrifying role and his demanding physical  transformation for the part.

As the producer and star of real life story of “Irish” Micky Ward in The Fighter, Mark Wahlberg put all his energy into bringing this movie to life over five years in the making. Having to stay in shape at all times during the filming of this movie, Mark used K-EARTH 101 as a little motivation during his daily training.

“I built a boxing ring in my backyard. That’s how I got so familiar with you guys, listening to the radio  every morning,” Mark told Gary & Lisa.

All his hard work has paid off with the recognition from the Academy, and now he’s preparing for the big award show this Sunday! Listen to Mark Walhberg’s call to the K-EARTH 101 Morning Show while on set of another film he’s producing…and most likely another future Oscar contender!

    “The Fighter”, heard of it and the critics have said it’s pretty god, but I still say “The King’s Speech” will win best picture ove The fighter or even the Social Network (changed my mind!).

    “The Fighter” sounds like a good movie from what I’ve read about it, but I think that The King’s Speech will win the Oscar as best picture over The Fighter and The King’s Speech. Still going with Portman for best actress too.

    Mark Walhberg, I’ve seen him in a few movies; pretty good actor!
