The talented and beautiful Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor, better known as Liz Taylor, has died at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital Wednesday morning. She passed away from congestive heart failure at the age of 79.

The iconic actress had been experiencing heart problems over the past year, and was in good company with her family at the time of her death. Today, family, fans and all of Hollywood are mourning the loss of this classic beauty and remembering her legacy in film and activism.

The legendary two-time Academy Award-winning actress had been hospitalized last month for heart failure and underwent surgery in 2009. According to her publicist Sally Morrison, Taylor was surrounded by her children Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd, and Maria Burton at the time of her death.

Her son Michael Wilding said in a statement, “My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world”

He continued, “Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished.”

Her most memorable body of work in Hollywood’s golden age of film was her starring role in Cleopatra. She later won Oscars for her roles in Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf and Butterfield 8. Liz Taylor is survived by her four children as well as 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Sorry to hear about her passing. I enjoyed her work in “Cleopatra” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf”. She will be sorely missed.

    Dame Elizabeth was the ultimate child actress.Her career began with of course Lassie. She was our National Velvet too. Dogs and horses can be great scene stealers!
    She gave the ultimate first kiss to Joel Rapp who remembers it as if it were yesterday. Lucky guy!
