“Shout” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Isley Brothers[/lastfm] was released in 1959 and was written by the brothers. While it did not reach higher than #47 on the Billboard Hot 100, it became their first gold single on the basis of its longevity and became a much covered tune.
The brothers referred to it as a call-and-response answer to Jackie Wilson’s “Lonely Teardrops,” which they performed during a club date. Joey Dee and the Starlighters reached # 6 with their recording of the song in 1962.
The song was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. It ranked # 118 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.
When it plays between two and three this afternoon we’ll take caller # 18 at 1-800-232-KRTH. (5784) to win a four-pack of tickets to the Renaissance Faire!
