We’ve been hearing plenty of rumors from tabloids over the weeks on the potential causes that lead to the demise of their relationship, but J-Lo addressed the issue herself in the first interview since the breakup in Vanity Fair. And despite another failed relationship, J-Lo is still a believer in love, first and foremost for herself.

In the first public interview since the end of her seven-year marriage to Marc Anthony, which they raised twins together, 42-year-old Jennifer Lopez opened up about what caused the divorce.

“Sometimes it doesn’t work – and that’s sad,” Lopez told Vanity Fair. “But I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love.”

She told the magazine that she was thinking about what was the right thing to do for herself and her happiness, adding, “Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves.”

She continued, “To understand that a person is not good for you, or that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself – if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now.”

But even though their personal relationship has ultimately fizzled, J-Lo and Marc still “make magic” when working together. Together they’ve launched a clothing line at Kohl’s and still plan on moving forward with their talent competition show Q’Viva! that discovers the best talents in the Latin Americas.
