Today’s ‘Tickets @ 2’ hit is from the Welshman [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tom Jones[/lastfm], and a song that was written by classical music arranger and conductor Les Reed along with Tom’s manager Gordon Mills.

They wrote the song for British singer Sandie Shaw, but she turned it down. Tom saw the potential, recorded it, and it became his first hit single.

Tom Jones’ real name is Thomas Jones Woodward.

Tom told the Observer Music Monthly in December of 2008 that the first version that he recorded wasn’t anything special: “Then producer Peter Sullivan said ‘You’ve got a big voice. Nice is not enough. You are not nice!’ As a result, the song jumped out of the speakers and became a hit.”

When we play “It’s Not Unusual” between two and three it’s caller # 3 to win those Sunset Junction Street Fair tickets. 1-800-232-KRTH. (5784)

Tom Jones was one of my mother’s favorite singer’s and I enjoy his music as well. Do you think it’s “Common” to hear a song called “it’s Not Unusual”? (so common?). Judging from the above picture, he must be in his seventies now at least. Still looks good though, right Fiona, my little “Delilagh”
