Michael Jackson’s ‘Death Bed’ Chopped Off The Auction Block

It looks like the organizers who put a section of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]’s death bed up for auction finally decided that the item was in poor taste to sell. Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions has taken down the queen-sized headboard to the bed MJ died in from the auction list at the request of Michael Jackson’s estate.

The morbid piece of memorabilia was part of a larger collection of items from MJ’s  rented house at 100 North Carolwood Drive being put up for auction by Julien’s Auctions this weekend. Other items include oil and water color paintings, antiques, and rare concert footage from a show in Argentina on his Dangerous tour in 1993, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“Michael Jackson has played a major part in the history of Julien’s Auctions and we would never do anything that is not in the best interests of Michael’s children, his mother or the Estate. We will always honor these requests,” Julien said in a statement after taking the headboard off the auction. “We want all of our events involving items associated with Michael Jackson to be a good experience for everyone and a celebration of his life and career,” Julien said.

We spoke to Julien last week in regards to putting this piece of memorabilia up for auction, which he clarified some of the misconceptions that it was the entire bed that was for sale, when in fact was just the headboard piece.

He told Gary, “Because of our history with Michael Jackson, our goal is to focus on the contents of the house. I didn’t think it would blow up as big as it did,” explains Julien. “Everything we do is first class and tasteful.”
