Considering her stage name was the same as the American frontiersman and her one hit had the same name as a Motown tune famous in later years, it’s no wonder no one remembers [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kit Carson[/lastfm] and her one hit “Band of Gold.”

Not much is known about Kit Carson, the singer, but we’ll give her the best props we can. As near as we can tell, Kit was born Liza Morrow sometime in the ’20s. As a youngster, she sang with George Paxton’s band before he closed up shop and opened up his record label (and made big bucks off acts like the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Crests[/lastfm] and the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Duprees[/lastfm]).

For Carson, a tune on King Records called “Washing Machine Blues” didn’t score many points with radio programmers but it did win her an inking with Capitol. That’s where she waxed her one hit, “Band of Gold,” a tune not to be confused with the Holland/Dozier cut made famous by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Freda Payne[/lastfm].

Kit hit #11 in January 1956, the first One-Hit Wonder of the year, and promptly disappeared after that.
