Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles Adoption Center Opening This Weekend

It’s hard to believe roughly 20,000 animals each year in L.A.’s animal shelters are put to sleep.  But a brand new no-kill adoption center in L.A. is about to change that.  This Saturday is the opening of Best Friends Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Services located in Mission Hills, whose vision is a better world through the kindness of animals and mission is for no more homeless pets in Los Angeles.

The opening of the 44,000 square-foot Los Angeles Best Friends Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Services has not been an easy one.  Last February, Best Friends proposed to the City of Los Angeles to operate and transform their Northeast Valley Animal Shelter, which never had the chance of opening due to budget and staffing issues.  After almost a year of negotiations, the contract was finally signed on January 3, 2012!

Francis Battista, Co-Founder of Best Friends Animal Society, said on his blog, “The shelter will play an important role in No More Homeless Pets Los Angeles, a coalition led and funded by Best Friends, that to date is made up of 33 local rescue and shelter partners, including Los Angeles Animal Services. It all adds up to a massive effort to take Los Angeles no-kill. The coalition will focus on boosting shelter adoptions through a subsidy program from Best Friends and reducing shelter intake through targeted spay/neuter projects that offer low-cost or free services to low-income residents.”

This Saturday the Shelter will be open and full of wonderful dogs and cats waiting for a new home.  By adopting you’re saving a life by making more space for other pets looking for a forever home.

The Best Friends Pet Adoption Center is located at 15321 Brand Boulevard at Sepulveda in Mission Hills, 91345.  Their hours are Wednesday-Friday 12noon-8pm and Weekends from 10am-6pm.
