Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Nashville today, according to police. He was 65. According to reports, he had been struggling with undisclosed health issues in recent years. A suicide note was found at the scene; his wife found him at their home at 12:15 pm.

Welch joined Fleetwood Mac after their classic blues rock era ended, following the departure of guitarist/singer and founder Peter Green and guitarist/singer Jeremy Spencer. The first American to become a member the British band, his arrival in Fleetwood Mac coincided with that of singer/pianist Christine McVie. They would lead the band in a more melodic and less bluesy direction. During Welch’s era, which lasted from 1971 – 1974, their albums included Future Games and Bare Trees. Although Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, Welch was not included.

After Welch left the group, he was replaced by guitarist/singer Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks, with whom Fleetwood Mac would sell millions of records. Welch had some hits on his own as a solo artist, including “Sentimental Lady” and “Ebony Eyes,” both from his 1977 album, French Kiss. His most recent release was 2011’s His Fleetwood Mac Years And Beyond Two, which saw him revisiting Fleetwood Mac songs from his era, as other versions of the band .

  1. RainbowRay says:

‘Another ONe Bites the Dust”–Queen. Rest in Peace Bob Welch and another example of a wasted life. Well, RainbowRay keeps going being there is nothing else I want to do with my life and I’m stupid enough to do something like that or What Junion Seau did. To bad Bob Welch didn’t have a mother to talk too or someone else (wife maybe, if he was married).

One of my favorite songs was “Precious Love” which I recently sent to my darling FIona 9/11 to help her “keep believing in TRUE LOVE and my lover for her and being PART OF MY DREAMS!” I LOVE YOU FIONA 9/11 WITH ALL MY HEART SO and what a fuckin shame to hear this story; it really is when I’m trying to go all out to make a difference. Another wasted life! Why do people give on life so easily? I’ve been working on my dreams for 11.5 years and I have been without Fiona for almost two years (come July 1 when I last had mty arms around her). Do i feel like killing myself because It’s taking so long to get where I want to be–NO! People should have a little bit more faith and that’s aprt of the problem.

Now I feel like playing “Precious Love” and thinking of my darling Fiona AGAIN! There is still HOPE though and RainbowRay/Eric’s MIrror will bring that hope through the KINDNESS OF STRANGERS no matter how long it fuckin takes!

I think with all the recent depressing stories (like this one) happening, the world needs some “sunshine” don”t you think. All the more for me to hold on and keep going! I LOVE YOU FIONA WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL (Sigggggh, AGAIN!)

When is this going to stop? I just keep going (like the “Engergizer Rabbit” HA!)

Sharing is caring and caring is sharing; living is giving and giving is living
