Summer time is here and the kids are on vacation from school, so that means trying to find fun summer activities the whole family can enjoy!

Amusement parks, vacations, and taking the whole family out for dinner can really add up over the summer. So to help keep the kids entertained during the summer without breaking your wallet, we gathered a few summer fun ideas via on the cheap!

1. See a “Dollar Movie”

Taking the whole family to the movies can be a lot cheaper if you know which day to go. During the summer, Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theatres will offer selected G or PG rated movies for only a dollar on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:00 during the Summer Movie Express festival. Plus, a portion of the proceeds from tickets goes to the Will Rogers Institute!

2. Sprinkler Day

Time your sprinkler systems to run later in the day for a free way to cool down on a hot summer day!

3. Story Time at the Local Library

Take the kids to the local library to explore books on different topics that interest them. Many libraries also hold story times to encourage summer reading and allow kids to ask questions about the story.

4. Lemonade Stand

Teach your kids a valuable lesson in handling money and starting their own business by setting up an old-fashioned lemonade stand. Make a quick stop at the store to pick up lemons, sugar, cups and ice and starting squeezing out that fresh lemonade!

5. Fly A Kite

Head to the park or beach on a windy day and teach your kids how to fly a kite. They’ll look on in wonder as they run back and forth making a kite fly in the air!

6. Bowling

Call ahead to see if the bowling alley has any summer/early bird deals and take the whole family out for some bonding over bowling.

7. Board Game Night

Sure video games might be all the rage with your kids, but schedule one night of the week for the whole family to sit down together and play a board game together!

8. Water Balloon Fight

Water balloons are an inexpensive way to have fun and cool down during the summer. Kids will love playing games like water balloon toss or have a full on water balloon battle.

9. Pajama Day

Sometimes it’s nice to just lounge around and have a lazy day to relax. Spend a day in your pajamas, make pancakes for breakfast, pizza for lunch, and just stay in watching movies on Netflix.

10. Bake Some Treats

Nothing brings a family together like the art of cooking. Kids will love helping mom and dad in the kitchen baking fun treats like cookies or decorating cakes and cupcakes!
