Did You Know: “Get Down Tonight” By KC And The Sunshine Band

Our ‘Tickets @ 2’ song of the day is “Get Down Tonight” by KC and the Sunshine Band.

Written and produced by Harry Wayne (KC) Casey and bass player Richard Finch. This classic takes us to a nightclub, where our disco hero is pitching a girl to do some dancing, followed by some lovemaking.

Richard Finch explained: “‘Get Down Tonight’ was inspired by a Gilbert O’ Sullivan song called ‘Get Down,’ which was also known as ‘Bad Dog, Baby.’ He wrote the song about his dog. The record was really hot when it first came out and I was like, ‘Okay, this guy has a great idea.’ He’s talking about ‘get down.’ But I didn’t find out later that he was talking about his dog. And I was like, ‘Well, that’s really square.’ How hip is that?”

Really hip if you’re a dog lover.

The song was the first of 5 #1 hits for KC and the Sunshine Band.

The hit was used in the movies Forrest Gump (1994), Arlington Road (1998) and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999).

When you hear it play between two and three we’ll take caller #10 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Ringo Starr and his All Star Band this Saturday at the Greek Theatre.
