The ‘Mindset’ Of The Class Of 2016

Get ready to feel old. The annualĀ Beloit College Mindset List for the newest class of college freshmen starting school this month has just been released.

The list compiles a list of events, items, people, and other references that the class of 2016, who were mostly born in 1994, never lived through or experienced.

The class of 2016 has never lived in a world where Kurt Cobain was alive, football was never played in Los Angeles, have never seenĀ  a real airplane “ticket.”

Instead, the class of 2016 has always been around “cyberspace, addicted to a new generation of ‘electronic narcotics,'” considered the Jackson family ‘American Royalty,’ not the Kennedys, and lived in a time where women have always been able to hold a position of power.

They have always grown up with MP3s and iPods and never listen to car radio (or have any need for radio at all, gasp!), and where “The Twilight Zone involves vampires, not Rod Serling.”

No doubt a lot has changed up until now, and the Mindset List is a way to remind teachers and parents that the new class sees the world through different eyes.
