On ‘Tickets @ 2’ be listening for Sister Sledge and “We Are Family.”

Four sisters whose name really are Sledge. They were a backup group for various artists before releasing this which became their first and biggest hit reaching # 2 on the music chart.

Luther Vandross, a struggling singer at the record label, sang as backup. Luther became a star in the 80s.

Kathy Sledge who sang lead, did not know the lyrics ahead of time. The producers gave her each line through her headphones as they came up to make it sound spontaneous. Amazing as it seems, they recorded “We Are Family” in one take.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball team used it as their theme over the stadium PA in 1979.

When you hear it play between two and three we’ll take caller #10 to win a pair of tickets to see Steve Winwood in November at the Greek Theatre. 1-800-232-KRTH.(5784)
