Did You Know: “Evil Ways” By Santana

Your ‘Tickets @ 2’ song to listen for is “Evil Ways” by Santana. It came out in 1969 and was originally recorded by Willie Bobo in 1965, it was written by Bobo’s guitarist Sonny Henry. Bobo was a Latin Jazz percussionist who was a big influence on Santana.

Gregg Rolie, who joined Journey in 1973, sang lead on it. Carlos Santana, who was the band was named after, rarely took lead vocals but got in plenty of guitar solos.

This was the first hit for Santana, who released their first album “Santana” shortly after their appearance at the Woodstock festival. They made a name for themselves playing live shows here on the West Coast Carlos was born in Mexico and grew up in the San Francisco Bay area.
