Starbucks Introduces $1 Reusable Coffee Cups

In efforts to help come up with a solution to kick the disposable cup habit to the curb, coffee giant Starbucks has introduced a new reusable plastic cup Thursday that customers can buy for just $1.

As incentive to purchase an use the reusable plastic cup, which bares the same iconic green logo as the traditional cups, Starbucks will also offer a 10 cent discount on refills, reports USA Today.

The cups will be sold at all company-owned stores in the US and Canada, which the company hopes the affordable price will encourage more customers to use the plastic cup each time they come in for their caffeine fix. Jim Hanna, the director of environmental affairs at Starbucks, tells USA Today that this green option will help cut back on the amount of waste produced by the company.

To eliminate risks of cross-contamination and germs from the reusable cups, an employee will wash out the cup with boiling water each time it’s used. Every cup also has a fill line indicator on the inside for “tall,” “grande” and venti” sizes.

Will you try out the new reusable cup at Starbucks?
