The new season of American Idol is quickly approaching and features a whole new judges lineup with country star Keith Urban, rapper Nicki Minaj and pop star Mariah Carey.

As  you may remember, just as the new season kicked off auditions this season, divas Minaj and Carey drew some unwanted attention to the show by reportedly getting into some heated arguments during tapings.

Now Carey has opened up about the infamous feud with Minaj with Barbara Walters on last night’s episode of Nightline, saying that she felt “unsafe” in the environment.

Carey also said that was the reason why she hired extra security on set, and said the feud was a “crass moment” that deflected from the show. But ultimately, Carey said that her involvement on the show was all about the contestants so she can help aspiring talent live their dreams like she was able to.

Of course the two divas have made up after the ugly feud, but fans of the show will be able to see how everything went down on set when the new season of Idol premieres next week on Wednesday and Thursday.
