Today on ‘Tickets @ 2′ we start the week with an Elton John hit “Your Song.” This was Elton’s first single to chart.

Bernie Taupin wrote the words over breakfast at Elton’s parents’ house, where he was staying. The original lyrics have coffee stains on them. Elton wrote the music in about 20 minutes, as he often did with Taupin’s lyrics in the early days.

Elton appeared on U.S. TV for the first time appearing on The Andy Williams Show. He was shy and very plain dressed, which changed a few years later when he became known for his outrageous costumes.

After hearing the song, John Lennon said Elton was “The first new thing that’s happened since we (The Beatles) happened.” They ended up becoming good friends.

When you hear “Your Song” between two and three we’ll take caller # 10 at  1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a 4-Pack of tickets to attend the Los Angeles Boat Show at the L.A. Convention Center, and at Burton Chase Park in Marina Del Rey, with free shuttle back and forth to both locations.
