Did You Know: “Billie Jean” By Michael Jackson

This afternoon on ‘Tickets@ 2’ it’s “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.

The song is about a girl who claimed that Jackson was the father of her child. Jackson based it on a woman who stalked him, writing him letters about a son she thought was his. Jackson rarely spoke about the woman, but he had a very hard time dealing with this unwanted attention, and became more reclusive as a result.

In hi autobiography “Moonwalk,” Jackson said that Quincy Jones wanted to change the title to “Not My Lover” because he thought it would be confused with tennis star Billie Jean King. Jackson won the battle.

The song won the 1983 Grammy Award for Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance and Best Rhythm & Blues Song for writer Michael Jackson.

When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller # 13 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to enjoy the music of Kenny G on Valentines at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
