Huey Lewis & The News Announce Summer ‘Sports’ Tour

Thirty years after their breakthrough album Sports took over rock stations nation-wide, Huey Lewis and the News is celebrating the album’s milestone with a 30th Anniversary Edition release and cross-country tour.

The number one album, which consisted of top ten hits like “Heart Of Rock And Roll,” “I Want A New Drug” and “If This Is It,” became the group’s signature release, and even after 30 years, those songs remain timeless classics.

“Ironically, the songs we wrote in our 30s are more appropriate for people of our current age,” Lewis said in an interview with USA TODAY. “”Stuck With You’ almost resonates more now.”

The Sports 30th Anniversary Edition, available May 14th, will feature remastered tracks of all nine original hits, plus a bonus disc of unreleased live versions of the songs. Leading up to the album’s re-release, Huey Lewis and the News will kick of its Sports tour April 10th with an appearance on Dancing With The Stars followed by a stop on the stage with Jimmy Kimmel Live! May 15th.

With 30 years gone by since the album’s release in 1983, Lewis is very aware of the cultural shift with technology in the ever-present smart-phone age. Used to a straight-forward rock concert, Lewis admits he has some reservations about taking the stage in a time where huge media productions are the norm.

“I do wonder sometimes if these days a simple concert of people on stage playing is enough, you know, without all the lasers and huge video screens. It’s a little tough. It’s changed,” Lewis said. “We used to be a beer-and-hot-dog band, but now we’re hanging out with the wine-and-cheese set.”

Though armed with setlist of songs that served as the soundtrack of the ’80s, Huey Lewis and the News should have no problem transporting fans back to the era.

Huey Lewis and the News will hit the road starting May 10th in New Brunswick, NJ with a stop in the SoCal area at Morongo Casino on May 17th.
