YouTube users were in for a surprise this morning when the site announced that it was going dark for ten years to sift through millions of video entries to declare a winner.

But if you look at your calendar, you’ll notice that today is none other than April 1st and the popular video site is just playing an elaborate prank for April Fool’s Day. The site declared that the past eight years have been nothing but a long-running contest and that the site is employing 30,000 judges to finally pick a “winner.”

The video description reads, “Thanks for all your great entries. YouTube finally has enough videos to begin selecting a winner. What do you think is the #bestvideo on YouTube? We’ve been thrilled with all of the diverse, creative entries we’ve seen so far, and we can’t wait to begin the process of selecting the best video. We’ll be announcing the winner in 10 years.”

The video features cameos by many of YouTube’s most popular viral stars including Antoine Dodson, Charlie and Harry from “Charlie Bit Me,” and David After the Dentist. Watch the funny prank below!
