It was all over the news yesterday and all the talk on Late Night shows last night – rumors of the Tonight Show shakeup were officially confirmed by NBC, who announced Jimmy Fallon will be taking over the show from Jay Leno this February.

Fellow Late Night hosts put in their two-cents about the changeup during the monologues on their shows, some offering their congratulations, and some taking a jab at Leno’s expense.

David Letterman, who lost the Tonight Show job to Leno in 1992, opened his monologue commenting on his departure before launching into a “Top 10 Things We’ll Miss About Jay Leno.”

“NBC, God bless ‘em, announced the official date for Jay Leno’s departure — no mention of his official date of return, however,” Letterman said. “I happen to know Jay’s got another job on network that has greater viewership, higher ratings: Univision.”

Conan O’Brien, who was infamously jilted from the same position in 2009, offered up a classy congratulations to Jimmy saying, “I want to congratulate Jimmy. That is a really fun gig. It is. And Jimmy is the perfect guy to do it. Congratulations, Jimmy.”

Jimmy Kimmel, who recently moved into the 11:35pm timeslot, made a joke about himself on his show, saying “As you probably heard … I will take over as new host of the ‘Tonight Show,’” he said, before getting interrupted by a staff member. “Ummm, apparently it was a different Jimmy. Does anyone know what the return policy is on yachts?”

Fallon even commented on the change during his show at his own expense, joking “Welcome! This is ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’… for now. You guys probably heard the news: I’m going to be taking over the ‘Tonight Show’ next February! But don’t worry. Until February, our focus is right here on whatever this show is called.”
