James Pickens Jr. Presents 4th Annual Charity Roping Event

Known for his most notable role as Dr. Richard Webber on Grey’s Anatomy, James Pickens Jr. joined us in studio to talk about his significant role in 42, the story about baseball legend Jackie Robinson, plus a special charity even happening this April.

Though his part is small in 42, James tells us he plays a significant role in the movie of a good Samaritan who opens up his home to Jackie so he’d have a place to stay during spring training.

“There’s only been a handful of films about [Jackie], but this story is probably the most definitive about him,” said James. “I play a character who opens up his home to Jackie during spring training.”

James doesn’t just play the good guy on film, he’s also generous at heart in real life, which he shows for his 4th Annual James Pickens Jr. Foundation Charity Roping Event.

“I’ve loved the western lifestyle for the last twenty years, I’ve owned several horses…and I got involved in team roping several years back, that’s a hobby,” said James. “I’ve made some really great relationships and my wife and I started a charity a little over four years ago and wanted to draw attention to our foundation.”

His foundation’s goal is to “bring increased value to the lives of people of this generation and the generations that follow.” His annual roping event is free to the public and features real-life cowboys and the top 25 team ropers in the world.

The 4th Annual James Pickens Jr. Foundation Charity Roping Event takes place April 23, 2013 at the Historic Tejon Ranch in Lebec, California. For more information on the event visit www.jpjfoundationroping.com and listen to our interview with James below!
