This afternoon’s ‘Tickets @ 2’ song is “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf. This was the second big hit for Steppenwolf. “Born To Be Wild” was their first a few months earlier.

The group wrote it based on the bass line their bass player, Rushton Moreve, came up with. The only words he had written were: ” I like my job, I like my baby.” Lead singer John Kay wrote the rest of the lyrics. He was inspired when he put a demo tape in a home stereo system he bought with royalties from their first album. That’s where he came up with the line, “I like to dream, right between my sound machine.”

We’ll take caller # 7 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) when it plays between two and three to win a pair of tickets to see the romantic comedy “Sleepless In Seattle” come to life before your very eyes, on stage at the Pasadena Playhouse.
