Topless Painting Of Bea Arthur Sells For Nearly $2M At Auction

She’s a Golden Girl, but it was Bea Arthur’s ‘golden girls’ that stirred up some controversy this week. Artist John Currin’s controversial 1991 painting titled “Bea Arthur Naked” sold for $1.9 million a Christie’s auction in New York on Wednesday, reports New York Post.

The painting depicts the beloved actress’ blank stare and bare sagging breasts as imagined by the artist – Bea never actually sat for the nude portrait. The Christie’s spokesperson called the painting “visually lasting” and the anonymous buyer bid for the painting over the phone.
