Did You Know: “Mony Mony” By Tommy James & the Shondells

Tommy James & the Shondells are back on ‘Tickets @ 2’ with “Mony Mony.”

In our interview with Tommy James, he explained: “Originally, we did the track without a song. And the ides was to create a party rock record; in 1968 that was pretty much a throwback to the early ’60s. We were looking for a ‘Sloopy’ or some crazy name – it had to be a two-syllable girl’s name that was memorable and silly and kind of stupid sounding. We came up with “Mony Mony” which is the abbreviation of the Mutual of New York Insurance Company.”

This was a # 1 hit for Billy Idol in 1987, which means Tommy James took it to the bank for a second time with the copyright.

When we play it between two and three we’ll take the 9th caller at 1-800-232-KRTH.(5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Fleetwood Mac July 3rd at Staples Center. Good Luck!
