Donut, doughnut, do-nut, or however you choose to spell it, it’s all about celebrating those delicious fried pastries today (June 7) for National Donut Day!

Whether you love them powdered, glazed or jellied, donuts make for a perfect companion to a cup of coffee in the morning, and many businesses are celebrating the day by giving away freebies!

Here’s where you can pick up a free donut on National Donut Day:

Krispy Kreme: Pick up a hot, fresh and free donut from participating Krispy Kreme locations to celebrate National Donut Day! No purchase necessary, click here for participating locations.

Randy’s Donuts: This SoCal staple is giving away one free donut per person from 7 to 10 a.m., courtesy of Singapore Airlines.

Dunkin’ Donuts: If there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts near you, this one stop breakfast shop is offering a free donut with any beverage purchase.
Believe it or not, National Donut Day began in 1938 with the Salvation Army declaring the first Friday in June ‘National Donut Day’ as a way to honor the memory of the “Donut Lassies” of World War I. Ever since, the Salvation Army has been celebrating National Donut Day not only to indulge on the sweet pastries, but to provide assistance to veterans.
You can help support the Salvation Army by purchasing a donut at one of the 1,000 participating donut shops in SoCal to raise funds for its Haven Homeless Shelter. Just look for the official Salvation Army National Donut Day poster hanging in the window of participating shops.
