This morning, we heard from husband-wife duo Valerie Day and John Smith of the ’80s new wave band Nu Shooz, who are best known for their No.1 dance hit “I Can’t Wait,” about an exciting night of music happening this Saturday at the Gibson Amphitheatre!

Nu Shooz will be performing a night of incredible music for the Super Freestyle Explosion Concert series featuring all your favorites from the ’80s era like Expose, Lisa Lisa, Stevie B and Stacy Q.

“It’s perfect actually, it’s a weekend warrior tour. We fly in, do the gig, and fly out the next day,” laughed Valerie. “The other people on the gig are really sweet…we’ve been fans of theirs for years, so it’s really fun to hang out. It’s kind of like therapy, actually.”

Years after their hit “I Can’t Wait” took over the charts, Nu Shooz reminisces how thanks to the help of Gary Bryan, their hit rocketed to the top of the charts. After Gary played their record on a station in Portland, Nu Shooz was all over the radio airwaves and even appeared on American Bandstand with Dick Clark.

“We just want to tell your listeners that it was you taking a chance on us that made our lives a whole lot more interesting,” said John.

Don’t miss out on a night of old school hits taking you back to the ’80s at the Super Freestyle Explosion Concert this Saturday at the Gibson!
