Elvis Presley’s Stax Records Sessions Released As A Box-Set

For the first time ever, Elvis Presley’s Stax Records sessions are available in one convenient three-disc box set in stores today (August 6th).

Titled Elvis At Stax: Deluxe Edition, the box set features all three albums that were produced from the King’s notable July and December 1973 recording sessions, plus rare photos and outtakes from the sessions, according to Rolling Stone.

As the story goes, Presley was contractually obliged to record new material in 1973, so he headed to Stax Records in Memphis, Tennessee to fulfill the recordings. Stax Records was the famed studio where Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam and Dave and others had created the ‘Memphis soul’ sound in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Presley’s recordings at Stax resulted in two separate sessions that produced three albums of new material; the first from July 20-23 when he laid down tracks including “Raised on Rock,” “I’ve Got a Thing About You Baby” and “For Ol’ Time’s Sake.”

Later, Presley returned for a week-long session in December when he recorded tracks including “I Got a Feeling in My Body.”

The box-set release comes just a week before the kick-off of ‘Elvis Week,’ which leads up to thousands of fans flocking to Memphis for a candlelight vigil at Elvis’ home to mark the anniversary of his death on Aug. 16, 1977 at age 42.
