The Monkees’ Peter Tork Reflects On Davy Jones’ Passing

They were the rowdy musical bunch that made fans laugh every week as the fictional TV rock band The Monkees during the ’60s. However, that fictional band soon became reality as the band’s members Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones recorded albums and took the band on the road for live performances all around the world.

Over fifty years later, The Monkees are still ‘monkeying around’ in a highly-anticipated reunion summer tour ‘A Midsummer’s Night With The Monkees’ featuring all surviving members of the band.

On the heels of The Monkees’ Los Angeles date, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Tork joined The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to talk about the impact this once made-for-TV band has made in music, and reflect on going on tour after the death of Davy Jones in February 2012.

“It’s really interesting to me to see what an impact The Monkees has made…something about the TV show I think,” Peter told Gary Bryan about the success The Monkees.

He added that after the passing of Davy Jones, the group was greatly upset about losing their close friend and bandmate, whose loss is certainly felt on their current tour.

“We were all very, very saddened by his passing. So much about him that I miss to this day,” said Peter. “He was a man of extraordinary gifts, many of which he was not able to share due to one thing or another. I have to say, I truly loved the man.”

Catch The Monkees perform live at Long Beach Terrace Theater this Tuesday, August 13th. Get tickets and more show information by clicking here.
