Paul McCartney Writes Back To Lost Fan Letter 50 Years Later

They always say it’s better late than never, and that was the case for two lucky Beatles fans when Sir Paul McCartney responded to a lost fan letter…50 years later.

According to Rolling Stone, two friends Barbara Bezant and Lyn Phillips from England recorded a special message on a reel-to-reel tape in 1963 and sent it to Finsbury Park Astoria in London where the Beatles were performing then.

At the time the message was recorded, Bezant and Phillips were just 17 and 19. Their hopeful message to Paul said, “This dream is just to come round the back and see you, but I don’t suppose that’ll ever happen. But we can always live in hope, can’t we?”

Somehow, their recording never made it to the arena, but amazingly it’s survived all these years and was discovered and purchased by a local historian, David McDermott.

“It was like sitting in a bubble and being there when these two girls were making this tape,” McDermott told the BBC. “The hairs on the back of my neck stood up and it made me wonder if these two were still with us.”

Turns out they were. After a little research, the BBC program The One Show found the two women, who haven’t seen each other in 40 years, and brought them back together.

The show reunited the pair at the Beatles Story Exhibition in Liverpool, and surprised the women with a belated response letter from Paul himself.

The letter read: “Hi Linda and Barbara, thanks very much for you lovely tape. It finally got through, better late than never. Great to hear that you found each other after all these years. Keep enjoying the music, love Paul.”

Needless to say, the women were “amazed” after finally getting a response from their favorite Beatle.
