It was an emotional vigil Monday night in honor of Paul Walker as family members, friends and colleagues of the actor gathered for a private memorial at the crash site in Valencia. CBS LA reports that Universal Studios made a special request to the Santa Clarita city manager’s office to hold the private memorial for those who knew the actor, and friend Roger Rodas who also died in the crash, best.
A tent went set up in a closed-off section around the crash site where Walker’s Fast & Furious co-stars Vin Diesel, Tyrese and Michelle Rodriguez could pay their respects. They were joined by Walker’s parents and 15-year-old daughter Meadow.
After the memorial, Vin Diesel used the PA system from a sheriff’s patrol car to speak to the crowd and thank fans for their outpouring of support.
“Thank you, thank you for coming down here and showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciate him,” he said to the crowd.
Diesel also honored his friend on Facebook by posting a photo of himself with Walker with the caption, “Pablo I wish you could see the world right now and the profound impact your full life has had on it…on us…on me.”
Walker and Rodas were killed in the fiery crash of a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT that crashed into a tree and then a light pole before bursting into flames in Valencia Saturday night. The accident remains under investigation.
